La Palma (Canary Islands), what to see?

Are you planning to visit the Canary Islands?

Yes ok, Grand Canaria, Tenerife, Fuerteventura ... but have you ever heard of La Palma?

defined by the inhabitants as the Isla Bonita, and the reason is clear ... it is fantastic! The wildest island of the archipelago, the greenest and the wildest.

It is the perfect island for those who love to immerse themselves and get lost in the wild and unspoiled nature.

In 2002 the island was declared a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.

The island is made up of two adjacent volcanic buildings: one to the north, the Caldera de Taburiente; and to the south the volcanic chain called Cumbre Vieja, one of the most active formation in the Canary Islands.

A new eruption in the southern part of the island began on September 19, 2021, forming a new volcano.

But let's start immediately with the places that you absolutely cannot miss to see in La Palma!

Let's start with the most beautiful destinations to visit ...

Charco Azul natural pool

The crystalline color of these waters will leave you speechless, natural pools carved into the rock.

La Palma Astrophysical Observatory

Among astrophysics enthusiasts and stargazers, La Palma’s observatory is known as one of Spain’s best - La Palma is a designated Starlight Reserve. Visits are free, but you need to make a request via the website

The Enchanted Forest

The name sounds like an exaggeration, but this lush forest weaves a powerful spell. From Cubo de La Galga, a hiking path steers travelers through some of La Palma’s prime rainforest, past giant ferns, huge laurel trees and lianas.

Cascada De Los Tilos

Magical place surrounded by wild nature.

Access to the waterfall is very easy, there is a small path that takes you directly and a small parking lot where you can leave your car.

Los Llanos de Aridane

It is the second most important center after the capital Santa Cruz de la Palma, it is a must to take a walk in the colorful streets of this beautiful city.

Parque natural de Cumbre Vieja

Cumbre Vieja (Old peak in Spanish) is a volcanic complex located in the center of the island, you can reach the crater via well-marked trails.

Salinas de Fuencaliente

The salt flats are spectacular: the contrast is extreme: the blinding whiteness of the salt, the pink pools and the evaporating tanks; a series of small strokes of color that are reflected on a large canvas with a black background, the result of a wonderful nature.

Fuencaliente lighthouse

A beautiful lighthouse that surrounds the magnificent black landscape of the lava and blue of the ocean. With its red and white colors it makes the panorama even more special.

To be seen in the general context with the Saline nearby and the black beach below.

So if you are undecided whether to visit this island ... the answer is absolutely yes!
